houston's bush intercontinental airport-fis
The 750,000 square-foot Federal Inspection Services (FIS) Building project centralized all immigration, customs inspections, and baggage inspection and handling for international arrivals. The new building ensured the compliance to new post-9/11 standards for airport security.
The FIS building is a three story, steel structure that highlights a glazed curtain wall and metal panel facade. Uplighting as well as adjustable downlighting is tucked into architectural curved trusses, which form segments of the high roof and are covered with metal panels. The basement houses a baggage handling area for all international travel with the baggage claim hall located on the first level. Bright and even lines of light illuminate the energetic modern space for weary travelers.
