Vibrant, the 3,400 sq ft café that was built as a key element in Memorial Park’s new Running Complex, serves as an important hub for a variety of park visitors as it is situated at the confluence of multiple paths and amenities. As a part of the planning, the architects situated the 1,000 sq ft patio with its impressive 33’ cantilever towards the interior of the park landscape and surrounded the interior space with windows to maximize the visitor’s connection to nature. As a self-proclaimed healthy and clean eating destination for visitors on the go, the restaurant interior similarly followed a clean, modern, no-fuss aesthetic. Though a large Noguchi pendant initially draws the eye to the warm interior, more subtle architectural lighting is there to support it. Lighting was tucked out of view and into architectural coves for soft indirect lighting with minimalist recessed lights chosen to fit between narrow wood slats when additional task lighting was needed.
