This 30-foot striking public sculpture was designed by local artist Guadalupe Hernandez to reflect the unique spirit and character of the East Aldine neighborhood.
The metal structure is both internally lit, so that it glows as a lantern at night, and externally lit so that the striking fuchsia color didn’t get lost in silhouette after dusk. Because the sculpture is visible from all sides and circled regularly by drivers, it was important to detail the integral lighting to minimize direct views of the fixtures and eliminate distracting glare. The intricate details and symbolism make this an important cultural beacon for this changing neighborhood.
