The Center for Glenwood is a new 14,000 square foot visitor’s center, office, education and event space for Houston’s iconic Glenwood Cemetery. The cemetery and park, which date back to 1871, encompasses 84 acres of burial grounds for many of Houston’s most prominent and influential individuals. While contemporary in tone, the new building chose traditional materials such as glass, bronze, and granite to honor the history of the site. Lighting was kept clean and integrated with the architecture, for example linear uplights mounted to window mullions, to keep the focus on the landscape and structure while creating a warm and welcoming environment for events such as memorial services.
