G2LDesign Notes

Wondering what we've been up to at Gandy2 Lighting Design? You're in luck - read on for our latest news, ideas, and a little bit of lighting humor...

On the Boards: US Highway 59 Bridges

Working in conjunction with Montrose Management District and TxDOT, G2LD is pleased to announce a new, dynamic lighting scheme for the six bridges which span Highway 59 within the Montrose District. The new lighting, currently in design development, will use color-changing LEDs to illuminate the arches inside and out, as well as to highlight the signature trusses. State-of-the-art wireless controls will allow coordination of colors across all six bridges as well as with color-changing signage throughout the neighborhood.

Did You Know? Lighting matters! A recent study showed workers in windowless offices were less physically active, had more restless sleep patterns, and, on average, got 46 fewer minutes of sleep per night. In fact, they scored lower than their daylight-absorbing counterparts across all 8 dimensions of the health study.

In the News: G2LD Welcomes New Studio Members

G2LD is proud to announce the addition of two new studio members: Erica Duffey and Tatiana Zucco. Erica comes to us with a degree in Interior Design and Tatiana with a degree in Architecture and a Masters in Graphic Design. Both have jumped into our busy studio schedule and are putting their talents to use on our extensive project schedule. Please help us welcome Erica and Tatiana!

Lighting Bloopers

It's a hazard of the job - we can't go anywhere without analyzing the lighting. We've seen it all - the good, the bad, the ugly, and the so-bad-it's-hilarious. So we've devised this column to share some of the funniest lighting mishaps.

Just about every job we work on has concerns about lamp life and fixture accessibility. After all nobody likes the hassle and expense of changing light bulbs.

But was this really cheaper or easier than changing the light bulb? Perhaps they were wanting some directional accent lights instead of the bright ambient glow of a fluorescent? Hard to say, but bravo on a job well done!

If you come across a spectacular (or just embarrassing) lighting blooper, please send it to us at sarah@G2LD.com. We're always looking for a good laugh...
