This 2,600 sq ft home on a secluded site in west Austin was inspired by contemporary Mexican architecture. The formal geometries, in particular a central barrel vaulted ceiling, made traditional recessed lighting a challenge. Instead, rectangular recessed fixtures housing multiple lamps allowed for the lighting to highlight furnishings and artwork while still continuing to flow with the architecture. Uplighting ensured that the vaulted ceiling created a warm and inviting space in the evening instead of disappearing into the dark. A 5-star project in the Austin Green Building Program, it incorporates rainwater collection and sustainable materials.
