Hendley Green is a reimagined public green space in Galveston's Strand-Mechanic Historic District designed to encourage community engagement. Starting with an underutilized urban space, now a central lawn accommodates guests during events, and is available during non-event times as a meeting place for recreation and outdoor seating. An oak tree grove of thirty newly planted trees borders the surrounding exterior of Hendley Green with the addition of tables and umbrellas as an alternative to the picnic lawn. Uplighting of the perimeter oaks at night helps highlight the space for Strand visitors while providing park users soft usable light. The park connects people to the outdoors and the surrounding historic district by providing a safe, clean, and "green" environment.
